The National Miniature Dachshund Club's National Specialty. Originally called Expo and Roundup, it is now called the NMDC National Specialty and usually one (sometimes two) all breed shows and/or specialty shows occur along with the show. The NMDC Specialty is held the first day, followed by the all breed show(s) and/or specialty show(s). The NMDC Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner (including a raffle) are held the night following the NMDC National Specialty. Host clubs and NMDC often have other events, such as evening barbecues, hospitality, etc. NMDC also plans to have educational seminars in the evening. All in all, this is a great time to learn about Miniature Dachshunds, meet new Dachshund friends, see Miniature Dachshunds from all over the country and often other countries, and just have a good time!
What is the NMDC National Specialty? The NMDC National Specialty is an exposition (similar to a conformation match, with no AKC championship points) of Miniature Dachshunds sponsored by the National Miniature Dachshund Club, Inc. NMDC National Specialty is unique, because it is the only show where all Miniature Dachshunds are weighed in all classes and must weigh 11 pounds or under in order to compete in the show. Other than this rule, NMDC National Specialty is run just like any other licensed specialty show and conforms to AKC rules. NMDC National Specialty includes two classes for exhibition only: Parade of Veterans (dogs are not weighed for this class only) and, just for fun, a Costume Class (often both dogs and humans are in costume). We also offer Obedience classes, from Novice A right up to Utility B, along with Non-Regular Classes of Graduate Novice, Brace, and Veterans. We also offer generous cash prizes. NMDC Specialty judges are usually experienced Dachshund fanciers and need not be licensed by the AKC.
