Mid States Miniature Dachshund Club

Inaugural Miniature Dachshund Match

April 26, 2008

Eaton, Ohio

What a party! That summarizes the feelings of many of the Mid States Miniature Dachshund Club members at the end of a long but satisfying day. Our first regional miniature dachshund match was extremely successful, thanks to the dedication and generosity of MSMDC members and the support of the NMDC Board and Ft. St. Clair Kennel Club.

A total of 42 miniature dachshunds were entered:

6 3-6 month old puppies in a competition preceding regular classes

20 Longs: (8, 10, 1, 1)

10 Smooths: (6, 2, 1, 1)

6 Wires: (2, 4, 0, 0)

Winners, listed on the following page, received ribbons and rosettes in the new NMDC colors bearing the Mid States Miniature Dachshund Club name. There was a wonderful list of awards, two pages total, from toys to beds to cash, all donated. We had a professional photographer, a cookout and a terrific raffle similar to those at NMDC. It was a great time and because so much was donated, the proceeds were nearly 700 dollars!

Our judge, Laura Abbott, did a very thorough and thoughtful job in examining the miniatures presented. Laura commented “I would like to thank those of you who entered, there were some very nice dogs and at times it was hard to make a decision. Thanks to all!”

If you missed this party, don’t despair. We are planning another miniature dachshund match in conjunction with the Clermont County Kennel Club, east of Cincinnati, Ohio the first weekend in September. This is the same weekend as the specialty shows held by the Dachshund Club of Southwest Ohio, and those judges are Emma Jean Stephenson and Gary Fisher.

Also, if you are interested in learning more about starting a regional miniature dachshund club or would like to join ours, you are invited to attend the next Mid States Miniature Dachshund Club meeting on Thursday, June 12 in Houma, LA.

Look for more information at the National Specialty show. Y’all come!
